Meet Kylie the Cockapoo: Esteem South Academy’s Therapy Dog
Celebrating World Mental Health Day 2025
To mark World Mental Health Day, we sat down (with treats, of course!) for a special interview with one of Esteem South Academy’s most beloved team members — Kylie the Cockapoo, our school therapy dog.
Q: Kylie, how long have you been part of the Esteem South Academy family?
🐶 “I’ve been padding around the corridors for a while now — I love being here! Every day is a chance to make someone smile.”
Q: What’s your role in supporting mental health at school?
🐶 “I’m here to help pupils feel calm, safe, and happy. Whether it’s a cuddle, a quiet moment, or a walk outside, I’m always ready to lend a paw.”
Q: What’s your favourite part of the school day?
🐶 “Definitely when I get to visit classrooms or spend time with pupils one-on-one. I also love story time — especially when I’m the star of the book!”
Q: Why is World Mental Health Day important to you?
🐶 “Because everyone deserves to feel supported. Mental health matters, and I’m proud to be part of a school that puts wellbeing first.”
Head of School - Sally Petcher added "Kylie brings so much joy and comfort to our school community. Her presence helps pupils regulate emotions, build confidence, and feel connected. She’s a true asset to our wellbeing team."
